When the founder Sotirio Bulgari of Bulgari opened up his first shop in Via Sistina, Rome in 1884, there is no way he could have understood that in 2014, style aficionados from all over the world would be lusting after his company’s elegant jewels than ever. That’s 130 years of making brilliant fine jewelry -an anniversary undoubtedly worth celebrating.
Since 1884, Bulgari has captivated the most celebrated people in the world with its style and elegance. This year, as the legendary Italian brand marks its 130th anniversary, it embarks on a series of projects that recount its rich past with a visionary eye to the future.
In fact, Bulgari hired New York’s renowned architect Peter Marino to renovate its flagship store on famed ViaCondotti in Rome. The redesign—with rich woods, Italian marble, and a new watch room—will serve as the inspiration for all future Bulgari boutique openings. Marino even paid close attention to a small secret room with sliding doors that was the “salottino Taylor,” where Elizabeth Taylor often spent time during her work in Rome on the film epic Cleopatra. The salon was reachable through a secret door from a private courtyard. While it has been closed for decades, Marino brought it back to service, ready for today’s VIPs.
Additionally, Bulgari created a lavish and incredible anniversary collection of jewelry, timepieces, and accessories. “Celebrating 130 years of Bulgari is particularly meaningful here in the city because New York was the first US store location,” says Alberto Festa, president of Bulgari North America. “Today, Bulgari on Fifth Avenue is not only a flagship but also a representation of our heritage. This anniversary is especially momentous because it reminds us of Bulgari’s DNA and encourages us to think innovatively about the future of our brand.” Credits: How is Bulgari Celebrating 130 Years? – Gotham Magazine
What we’ll expect? Exceptional limited edition pieces like the iconic Serpenti watch in three prized variants, the timeless B.zero1 Roma ring symbolizing everlasting renewal, and the advent of the new LVCEA timepiece for girls – a homage to the sundial. Each definitely different, though definitely Bulgari.
Bulgari has been celebrating its 130th anniversary this year in style. Not only did the brand hire world-renowned architect Peter Marino to totally refurbish its Via Condotti flagship store in the heart of Rome, just minutes from the famed Spanish Steps, but it also embarked on a host of projects and product unveilings, including many new (and record-breaking) examples of haute horlogerie that could transform any Bulgari watch admirer into a Bulgari watch wearer. And if for some odd reason jewels only are not your thing, the width of the brand doesn’t cease there. You had better believe our vacation, birthday and “simply because” wish lists only got more. And now yours have too.
